The Morning After: Mimosas

Happy New Year everyone, another celebration has come and gone and thankfully fate landed this New Years on a Friday giving many of us the opportunity to have a New Years celebration weekend. For many of us, the party didn’t stop Friday but instead kept rolling right into 2011 on Saturday night. That being said there’s only one thing left to do, and that’s cap off the weekend with a wonderful Sunday morning. Still have some of that delicious champagne corked and left over? Great, if not, you can run to the grocery store, grab a nice inexpensive bottle of bubbly and your favorite brand of Orange Juice and you’re ready to go. For more exotic flavors, try replacing the OJ with your choice of fruit juice. Try one of these this morning and relax while recapping a wonderful year and weekend in review.

Mimosa – Classic

3/4 part Champagne
1/4 part Orange Juice

Passion Fruit Mimosa

3/4 Part Champagne
1/4 part Passion Fruit Juice

Pomegranate Mimosa

3/4 Part Champagne
1/4 part Pomegranate Juice

If you want to get really crazy try mixing multiple fruit juices with your champagne to create some exotic flavors. Some excellent combinations include peach/mango orange/pineapple and pomegranate/cherry. Enjoy !

Champagne Cocktails in time for New Years

The year is almost over, and if you’re like me you plan on spending the last few hours of the year hosting family and/or friends reminiscing on all the good and bad that happened in 2010 all while enjoying the tingly taste of your favorite bubbly. But if you’re like me, you live to be different. So this year instead of the same old boring (good but boring) champagne, impress your friends and offer up some champagne cocktails. Traditionally, the mixing of champagne with anything might be blasphemous to some, but for true cocktail lovers, combining the sparkling spirit with your choice of ingredients can create some amazing flavors.  Along with creating new flavors, additional ingredients can help create or enhance a night of romance that many envision when planning their New Years get together. Is saving more money one of your New Years resolutions? Serving Champagne cocktails can help you get a head start on that one as generally you can create these delicious concoctions with less expensive champagnes and/or sparkling wines that work just as well. With less than 24 hours until your party starts, lets stop wasting time, enjoy !

Kir Royale: (Classic)
1/2 oz Creme de Cassis

Pour in your Creme De Cassis and then add in the Champagne filling to the top

Champagne Cobbler
1/2 tsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp curacao
1 thin slice of orange

Fill a large goblet half full of cracked ice. Add lemon juice, curacao, and orange slice. Stir and fill glass with champagne or sparkling wine. Stir again gently.

The Green Sparkler

1/2 oz Midori

Fill glass flute with champagne, top with Midori and serve

The Magna Carta
1 1/2 oz Tequilla
1 oz Triple Sec
Lime Juice

Dip the rim of a chilled wine glass in lime juice, then salt. Pour in tequilla and Triple Sec, then fill with champagne or sparkling wine.

Midnight Kiss Cocktail
3/4 oz Vodka
Dash Blue Curacao

Rim the edge of a wine glass with white or gold sugar. Pour well-chilled vodka into the glass, and fill with champagne or sparkling wine.
Top with Blue Curacao.

Mimosa (The Morning After Cure)
1 oz Orange Juice

As simple and classic as it gets, the mimosa is delicious and can be altered to fit your taste. Try this recipe, or half and half.

Hopefully with these fun and simple cocktails you’ll be a big hit at this years end of the year bash. Don’t forget to try out “Cocktail of The Week” which is also a champagne concoction.
