4th of July Cocktail Recipes

Happy 4th of July ! Enjoy this Independence day by cooling off with one of these delicious cocktails.

The 4th of July Cocktail (Courtesy of Guy Fieri)

  • 1 oz watermelon schnapps
  • 1 big splash Cranberry juice
  • 1 very thin slice jalapeno or serrano pepper
  • 1 slice lemon
  • 1 slice lime
  • 1 1/2 oz Tequila
  • 1/4 oz blue curacao
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • Watermelon wedge, for garnish (optional)

Mix the schnapps and cranberry juice in a shaker; pour into an ice-filled glass. Muddle the jalapeno pepper, lemon and lime slices, tequila, blue curacao and simple syrup (to make a batch, dissolve sugar in equal parts hot water and chill) in the shaker. Slowly strain into the glass over the red layer. Garnish with watermelon, if desired.
The Red White & Blue Cocktail ( Created by The Professional Drinker)

1/2 oz Ciroc Vodka
1/2 oz Ciroc Red Berry Vodka
1/2 oz Ciroc Coconut Vodka
3 oz Cranberry Juice
Splash of Lime Juice

Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake and strain. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Summer Fun With Hpnotiq: Hpnotiq Cocktail Recipes

Hypnotiq, Hpnotiq, Hipnotic… However you spell it, years ago, I was a HUGE fan of Hpnotiq, so much so that at all times you could find a bottle in my cabinet, and usually find a hint of it in any cup I was holding at parties… and then I turned 22. That’s right, for my first legal age of drinking I fell in love with the cordial that was constantly mentioned on TV, always advertised at the club, and usually on the top shelf towards the front of the liquor store to catch your attention. But eventually I tasted other spirits and realize how over-hyped, and incorrectly used Hpnotiq was. The key word being INCORRECTLY used. Years later I have not only discovered a new found respect for the aqua colored cordial, but also found many new ways to PROPERLY mix the drink highlighting its pros and hiding its cons. I think it’s a GREAT summer mixer and with the help of a few other ingredients I’m going to show you some of my favorite summer cocktails to make with it.

Cayman Water Cocktail:
I actually discovered this drink while “researching” last summer in the Cayman Islands. It was a local favorite that I decided to put a but of a spin on and make it my own. Enjoy

1 oz Hpnotiq
1 oz Stoli Vodka
1 1/2 oz Fresh Passion Fruit Juice
1 1/2 oz Sweet N Sour Mix
Club Soda

In a 16 oz cup/glass filled with ice, add in ingredients in this order, Hpnotiq, Passion fruit, Sweet N Sour. Fill to top with Club Soda (Or to your preferred taste). Garnish with a Lime wedge.

Island Hpnosis
My own creation, another hit, try one at your next gathering.

1 oz Hpnotiq
1 oz Cruzan Coconut Rum
3/4 oz Fresh Pineapple Juice
3 oz Lime Flavored Tonic Water

Combine ingredients other than the Tonic in a shaker. Shake well and strain into a glass filled with ice. Add Tonic and enjoy. Garnish with an Orange Peel

Summer Blues
Another spin of my own on a drink originally crafted by the Hpnotiq Marketing team perfect for these hot summer days.

1 1/2 Oz Hpnotiq
1/2 oz Stoli Blueberry Vodka
2 oz lemonade (Substitute Pink Lemonade for another take on this)
1/2 Club Soda

Combine ingredients over ice, topping with the Club Soda. Garnish with a Lemon Wedge. Warning, QUITE TASTY!

Tastes Like Heaven, Burns Like Hell: Fireball Whisky Review

Fireball Cinnamon Whisky needs no introduction. If you haven’t tried it yet, just imagine what it would be like to get a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick to the face if his legs were on fire and tasted like cinnamon. Like it, love it, shoot it– your dad’s whisky never tasted so smooth. What happens next is up to you.”

…..While we wouldn’t exactly compare the kick in Fireball Whisky to a kick from the almighty Chuck Norris (How dare they!), we do agree that there’s enough cinnamon kick in this one to ignite a flame in your mouth if you aren’t careful. Fireball Cinnamon Whisky comes to us all the way from Canada, originally created to fight off the harsh winters of the North as their website suggests. Coming in at a whopping 66 proof, this whisky actually comes off a bit more like a schnapps, or liqueur.

Presentation: I love both the bottle design and logo they created. The yellow and red obviously visualize the fire and flame theme that they are going for. Easy bottle design great for pocketing and sneaking into college parties and tailgating events.

Aroma: Cinnamon, Cinnamon, and more Cinnamon. Oh and a bit of sugar too. Intense Cinnamon and sugar aromas are the only things I notice when cracking open a bottle. Not a trace of whisky on the nose but that’s not to say it isn’t in there.

Taste: Have you every wondered what Big Red Bubble Gum infused alcohol would taste like? Something tells me this is as close as you’ll ever get. There’s an intense cinnamon flavor that immediately hits you followed by a sweet finish with a bit of a bite. Again, not a Chuck Norris bite, but maybe Steven Segal-ish. It actually goes down pretty easy and blends the cinnamon and the whiskey together nicely. While many traditional whisky fans may scoff at this, Cinnamon Schnapps fans will probably embrace it and enjoy the warmer tones the whisky brings out in it. By itself it makes an excellent shot (supposedly it was meant to be consumed in shot form), and in the right drink it can make a nice warm cocktail.

Grade: C+/B- (C+  as a whisky, B- as a cinnamon gimmick drink… sorry had to do it)

Overall it’s a good gimmick cocktail sure to make some fun and interesting drinks. This definitely will be popular in the college circles for shooting purposes much like Goldschlager, Jagermeister, and other similar drinks. Here are a few recipes courtesy of Fireball Whisky.

Tennessee Apple

  • 1 oz. Fireball Cinnamon Whisky
  • 1 oz. Apple Schnapps
  • 1 oz. Cranberry Juice
  • Shake with ice and strain, garnish with a Honey Crisp® apple

The Igniter

  • Half Fireball Cinnamon Whisky
  • Half Firefly Sweet Tea Bourbon
  • Shake with ice and strain into shot glass

The Wake N Bake

  • 1 shot Fireball Cinnamon Whisky
  • 1 cup of your favorite coffee
  • Brew a cup of coffee or hit up your local Starbucks® and drop in a few shots of Fireball

Popular St. Patty’s Day Recipes: Irish Car Bomb

Spring is slowly creeping in and St Patty’s day is less than a week away. That being said I wanted to feature several of the Holidays most popular drinks leading up to Thursday’s extravaganza. First up is the Irish Car Bomb. The Irish Car Bomb is very popular worldwide, mostly because it’s easy to make, uses widely available ingredients, and appeals to the masses of beer lovers. Try one next time you’re out.

Irish Car-Bomb
3/4th’s of pint of Guinness
1/2 shot Jameson Irish Whiskey
1/2 shot Baileys Irish Cream

Add the Bailey’s and Jameson to a shot glass, layering the Bailey’s on the bottom. Pour the Guinness into a pint glass or beer mug 3/4 of the way full and let settle. Drop the shot glass into the Guinness and chug. If you don’t drink it fast enough it will curdle and increasingly taste worse.

Cocktail of The Week: The Pama Kiss

Valentines Day is only a few days away. So in tribute I thought it only fitting to feature a sexy and seducing cocktail compliments of Pama Liqueur. Serve this to your significant other this Valentines Day and you will have them eating out of your palms.

Pama Kiss

1 1/2 oz. PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur
3/4 oz. Premium Sour Apple Vodka
1/2 oz. Cranberry Juice

Mix all ingredients and pour in glass of choice. To garnish, dust some raspberries with sugar and slide onto stirrer.

 

Rivalry Cocktails:Bears Vs Packers

This Sundays showdown between division rivals the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers is already being dubbed by members of the media and each teams fan base as “The most important game in each teams history”. One of the greatest rivalries in sports — and the oldest rivalry in the National Football League — will reach new heights this weekend when both teams square off for a shot at the Superbowl. As these two powerhouses battle it out on the field, millions of  Bears Fans and Packer Backers alike will gather in sports bars and living rooms around the WORLD cheering and rallying for their team to come out the victor. Impress your friends this year by pairing one of these Bears/Packers inspired cocktails with your favorite set of snacks.

Chicago Bears

Bear Blitz Margarita:

1 oz Malibu Coconut Rum
1/2 oz 1800 Tequila
1/2 oz Blue Curacao
1/2 oz Simple Syrup
Ice

Lovies Lemonade:

1 1/2 oz Russian Standard Vodka
1 1/2 oz Blue Curacao
Lemonade

In a shaker, combine Vodka and Curacao and then strain into a highball glass filled with ice. Top off with Lemonade until full.

Green Bay Packers

Packer Punch:

10 oz Midori Melon Liqueur
5 oz Vodka
2 oz Orange Juice

Recipe Makes a large quantity. For individual servings decrease to 2 oz Midori, 1 oz Vodka and a splash of OJ. Combine Midori and Vodka first and then add in Orange Juice.

Wisconsin Old Fashioned

2 oz Brandy
3 Dash Bitters
1 Sugar Cube
1 Splash Water
1 Splash Club Soda
Orange Wheel
Cherry

Old Fashioned fans looking for one in Wisconsin will never find the traditional bourbon ingredients instead being replaced by brandy. Dissolve sugar cube in a small amount of water (or use a splash of simple syrup). Muddle an orange wheel, just to get a bit of juice out of it. Add brandy and bitters. Pack glass with ice and add a splash of soda. Garnish with a brandy soaked cherry.

Hope you enjoy these NFL edition cocktails. Though not a rivalry itself,  Jets and Pittsburgh fans are sure to get an exciting game to watch as well. New York fans can try a “Revis island” while Steelers fans can check out the “Black and Gold” Martini.
